Commercial EV Charging

Charging that keeps vehicles moving

Pretium designs and delivers commercial EV charging with fixed-price installation discipline, matched to how the site operates — load management, driver experience and billing via the CPO platform.

You're transitioning to electric vehicles. The challenge isn't installing a charger — it's making sure charging happens reliably while vehicles are idle, so you never lose productive time to a queue, a faulty unit, or a grid constraint you didn't see coming.

Pretium Synergy acts as your energy-transition orchestrator: we assess your usage pattern, design infrastructure matched to how your site actually operates, specify and configure the right driver app, management, and billing platform for your model, and deliver it — under one fixed-price scope, as your single accountable partner.

The challenge

Why this needs rigour, not just hardware

Commercial EV charging fails on the things a quick hardware quote skips over: rapid chargers installed where slow overnight charging would have done the job at a fraction of the cost; multiple vehicles charging simultaneously with no load management, tripping the site supply; manual, error-prone cost allocation between tenants, departments, or guests; and a driver-facing app or access system nobody bothered to configure properly, generating support calls instead of preventing them.

Pretium Synergy manages these so you don't have to become a load-management engineer, a billing administrator, and a project manager to get charging installed properly.

How we work

Assess → Design → Deliver → Operate

  1. 01

    Assess

Vehicle profiles, dwell times, and site grid capacity — plus the commercial model you need: subsidised staff charging, cost recovery, or public revenue.

  2. →

    02

    Design & approve

Electrical layout, hardware selection, and load management configuration — with the driver app, site management platform, and billing setup specified and configured to match your access and payment model. DNO application (G98/G99) handled as part of the scope, not discovered mid-project.

  3. →

    03

    Deliver

Installation and software commissioning under one fixed-price contract. We manage our own team and vetted subcontractors as the work requires, and configure and test the platform before handover — you deal with one company throughout.

  4. →

    04

    Operate

Remote monitoring, fault triage, and an agreed support period beyond go-live — including first-line handling of driver and billing queries, so they land with us, not your facilities or finance team.

Site fit

Matched to how your site actually operates

The right specification depends entirely on how vehicles use your site — this isn't a one-size answer, and it's the first thing we get right:

  • 01

    Fleet & depot charging

High-density overnight charging with load management to maximise use of available grid capacity, so every vehicle starts its shift ready.

  • 02

    Workplace charging

Reliable AC charging with fair-use access and automated cost recovery or subsidised-rate billing, with no manual admin for HR or facilities; often grant-eligible under the Workplace Charging Scheme.

  • 03

    Apartments & multi-unit residential

Scalable shared-capacity infrastructure with per-tenant billing and private access, specified for long-term compliance, not a minimum-viable install.

  • 04

    Destination charging

Hotels, retail, leisure — public-facing chargers with payment handling and pricing that encourages turnover rather than long-term parking, specified and configured to meet the Public Charge Point Regulations 2023 where your site falls in scope.

  • 05

    Short-let & holiday properties

Simple guest access and automatic billing to the stay, with no host intervention required.

Where more than one configuration is viable — charger speed and count, standalone versus paired with solar or storage — we don't hand you a spec sheet and leave you to decide. We tell you which option we'd choose, and why.

Software & operations

The software behind the hardware

A charger is only as good as the system running it. Every installation includes the driver, operator, and billing software needed to run it properly — configured to your site and commercial model, and commissioned as part of your fixed-price scope.

  • For drivers: A branded app for finding, starting, and paying for a charge, with support for multiple payment methods and, for public or destination sites, roaming access to other charging networks.
  • For you as operator: Real-time monitoring and remote troubleshooting across every charger, with dynamic load balancing and charging-priority rules to keep sites stable as demand changes through the day.
  • For billing: Pay-as-you-go, subscription, prepaid, or fleet-specific rates configured to your model, with automated invoicing and cost allocation so usage isn't reconciled by hand.

Hardware-agnostic underneath, so it isn't tied to one manufacturer's chargers — which matters if your site grows, changes supplier, or needs a mix of charger types across locations. We configure it to your operational requirement, not a default package — a depot's needs and a hotel's needs are genuinely different setups.

Grid & load management

Solved before it becomes a problem

Multiple chargers can overwhelm a site's supply fast — dynamic load balancing (above) is what keeps that from happening once chargers are live, but the underlying supply capacity has to be right first. We handle the G98/G99 DNO route, manage capacity requirements, and flag any required reinforcement early — before procurement, not after. Where you're also running solar on site, charging can be configured to prioritise self-generated power when it's available.

Safety & durability

Engineered in

Commercial chargepoints face harder use and more exposure than a domestic install. We specify for it: physical protection (placement, bollards, cable containment where needed), correct RCD protection and isolation, and access/payment configuration in line with relevant accessibility standards for public-facing units. This is specified at design stage, not fixed after a unit's been damaged or a fault's gone unnoticed.

Regulation

Compliant where it matters

If your chargers are genuinely open to the public — a hotel, retail, or leisure site, for example — they fall under the Public Charge Point Regulations 2023, and non-compliance carries real civil penalties. We specify and configure for this as standard on any public-facing installation: clear pricing displayed in pence per kWh, contactless payment on qualifying chargers, a 24/7 free helpline, and open, machine-readable charge point data via OCPI, plus payment roaming so drivers aren't locked into one network.

Fleet, workplace, and residential charging generally sit outside these regulations — we'll tell you plainly whether your site is in scope rather than applying rules that don't apply to you.

Grants

Funded, where you qualify

If your chargers are for staff or fleet use — not public charging — your installation may qualify for the government's Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS). As it currently stands: up to 75% of purchase and installation costs, capped at £500 per socket, across up to 40 sockets per applicant. The scheme is confirmed to run to 31 March 2027, though OZEV has flagged this as its final year in the current form.

It's voucher-based — you apply, receive a voucher, and your installer applies the discount directly to your invoice, so there's no separate claim to chase after the fact. We'll confirm your eligibility and handle the voucher as part of the project, not as a separate administrative step you're left to manage.

Grant rates and scheme dates move — we'll confirm the current position for your project before you commit, rather than relying on a published figure that may have changed.

Commercial terms

One fixed price, one contract

Our fixed price covers design, DNO fees, civil works, equipment, installation, platform configuration and commissioning, user onboarding, and an agreed initial support period — one scope, one contract, no separate civils, electrical, hardware, and software suppliers to manage. Unforeseen site conditions (unexpected ground conditions, DNO-mandated reinforcement) are identified early and agreed separately before work proceeds, so the fixed price stays meaningful rather than becoming a starting figure.

Ongoing relationship

Beyond installation

A charger that's confusing or unreliable becomes a liability fast. We stay involved beyond commissioning: remote monitoring, first-line handling of driver and billing queries so they don't land on your team, preventative maintenance and testing, and planning future phases as your fleet or site needs grow.
