Warm Homes Loan Scheme

Ready to move your home energy wishlist forward?

The loan funds eligible parts of a plan. The plan is what makes the borrowing worth doing.

Pretium’s whole-home energy transition is that plan: what should work together, what the scheme can carry, what needs separate funding, and what can wait.

A UK house with solar panels, heating and cooling, battery storage and EV charging, set out as one joined-up home energy plan
One home. One joined-up energy plan. The labels are the wishlist. Only the eligible parts can be borrowed for.
  • Work together

Heating, solar, storage and charging chosen so each one supports the rest.

  • Scheme can carry

Solar, battery storage and an eligible heat pump, within the published caps.

  • Separate funding

Roof work, insulation, windows, doors, and a chargepoint on its own.

  • Can wait

Designed now, and installed when the home and the budget are ready.

Perhaps some rooms never feel warm enough. You want cooling for summer, solar to generate your own electricity, or a battery to make better use of it. You have been considering improvements, but the upfront cost and the separate decisions have kept them on hold.

The Warm Homes Loan Scheme could give you another way forward. Participating lenders offer reduced-interest finance, including some interest-free products, for eligible improvements. You repay the loan over an agreed period. Applications go to a lender, not to Pretium and not to the government. Government factsheet

Your home energy wishlist. One joined-up plan.

Pretium Synergy’s whole-home energy transition packages bring those ambitions together. We help you choose improvements that work together, understand the combined investment and benefits, and decide what to install now or introduce in stages.

The Warm Homes Loan Scheme could help make that plan affordable. Pretium helps make it coherent, and delivers it.

Rather than collecting separate quotes and working out the connections yourself, you have one team coordinating equipment selection, installation and ongoing support. Your package starts with what you want from your home: greater comfort, better control of energy costs, and less dependence on fossil fuels.

  1. 1. Bring out your wishlist

Which of these sounds like you?

    • Living room of a UK home opening onto the garden

“I’d like the house — or one particular room — to be more comfortable.”

    • Solar panels on a slate roof beside a brick chimney

“I want to generate some of my own electricity.”

    • A home battery mounted on a garage wall

“I’d like to use a battery to make better use of solar or a suitable electricity tariff.”

    • A wall-mounted unit that heats and cools a bedroom

“Some rooms never feel warm enough. Could a system that heats in winter and cools in summer be a better option?”

    • An electric car on a driveway next to a wall charger

“An electric car is coming. I’d like to plan ahead.”

Pick your top two priorities. You do not need to choose equipment, or commit to every improvement, yet.

  2. 2. Find out what fits your home

Have your recent energy bills, heating details and any existing quotations ready. Explain how you use your home, and what you expect to change.

Ask for a plan that answers three questions.

What would help most? What should happen first? What can wait?

    • Roof

Check it before solar. A repair needs its own funding.

    • Heating

Check suitability before choosing a heat pump.

    • Electrics

Check capacity where extra demand is planned.

If a roof repair or other enabling work is needed, include it in the overall budget, even when it needs separate funding.

Pretium brings these decisions into one home energy plan. Heating, cooling, solar, battery storage and EV charging are considered together where they are relevant, so each improvement supports the wider picture. You can plan the whole home without upgrading everything at once.

  3. 3. Get one clear picture of the money

Ask for a written breakdown. Three kinds of help do different jobs, and the plan is what puts them in the right order.

    • VAT relief

      Changes the price.

    • Grant

      Reduces what you pay.

    • Loan

      Spreads what remains.

What to establish in a home improvement budget
Your home improvement budgetWhat to establish
Installation priceEquipment, work included, applicable VAT and exclusions
Available grantsWhat you qualify for, and how it reduces your contribution
Amount to fundWhat remains after grants and any savings you choose to use
Monthly commitmentLoan repayment, plus maintenance and service costs
Expected benefitEstimated energy savings, any export income, and comfort improvements
Total borrowing costAPR, fees, repayment period and total amount repayable

VAT relief, grants and loans do different jobs. VAT relief affects the price. Grants reduce what you contribute. The loan spreads the eligible cost that remains.

Qualifying energy-saving materials installed in Great Britain are currently charged at 0% VAT until 31 March 2027. The installer applies the rate that fits the work. Northern Ireland has its own rules. HMRC VAT Notice 708/6

Check eligible heating grants, and any other grant-funded support, before you decide how much to borrow. Scheme overview

The useful question is: what would this change in my monthly budget, and what value would it deliver over time? Compare the expected savings with the repayments. Savings do not automatically cover the loan.

4. Find a loan that works with your installation

Use the government’s participating-lender list. The application goes to a lender, or to that lender’s authorised application route . It does not go to the government, and it does not go to Pretium.

Agree the home energy plan before you apply, so the work in the application is work a lender can accept, and the payment schedule matches the installation.

Before you apply, confirm three things.

  • Your proposed work and installer are accepted. Appropriate MCS certification is normally required.
  • The repayment is affordable, and you understand whether the loan is secured against your home.
  • You know when funds are released, and how that matches the installation payments.

Lenders carry out their own eligibility, credit and affordability checks. Agree the finance and the payment arrangements before you commit to the work.

5. Turn the plan into improvements

Agree what will be installed, the timetable, the warranties and who provides support. After installation, ask for a demonstration, your certificates and a clear explanation of the controls.

Keep the quotation, the finance agreement and the handover documents. Review actual energy use against the expectations you agreed at the start.

Now

Install what should happen first, with the loan covering the eligible part of that step.

Later

Leave the rest designed, so the next improvement fits the one already in place.

You can plan the whole journey and still take it one step at a time.

Scheme essentials at a glance

Plan first. These caps are limits on eligible work, not a menu to order from. Heating and cooling is on the wishlist and in the picture. Air-to-air applications are not open yet.

The scheme is for eligible owners of UK residential properties. These figures are published limits. They are not installation prices, and they are not a promise of lending. Eligible associated works count towards the limit for that improvement.

Published Warm Homes Loan Scheme caps for common improvements
ImprovementPublished scheme cap
Solar panels£15,000
Battery storage£15,000
Air-to-water heat pump£20,000, assessed before the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant is deducted
Air-to-air heat pump£10,000 published, but applications are not open. The required MCS certification pathway is not available yet.

The scheme also publishes caps for ground-source heat pumps, biomass in rural properties, heat-network connections and some smaller renewables. The factsheet and the scheme rules are the full list.

Eligible Boiler Upgrade Scheme and Home Energy Scotland grants can be combined with scheme borrowing. They cannot pay for the same improvement twice. Heat-pump costs are assessed before the heating grant is deducted.

Roof replacement, structural preparation, insulation, windows and doors need separate funding. An EV chargepoint can qualify only as part of an eligible solar or battery installation, not on its own. The chargepoint and the installer need to be OZEV-approved. If a grant has already been paid for that chargepoint, the loan cannot fund it as well.

Your next step

Bring us your wishlist. Let’s turn it into a home energy plan worth investing in.

Tell us what you would like to improve, and what has been holding you back. We’ll help you move from separate ideas to a coordinated package, with a clear scope, an investment picture, and a route to installation and support.

Scheme eligibility, eligible improvements and lending terms apply. Finance is subject to the participating lender’s approval. Pretium is not a lender and does not decide the application.

Official information and support

Rates, availability and requirements vary by lender. Check the current government guidance, and your lender’s own offer, before you apply. If a message about the scheme does not match the official lender list, treat it as suspicious and report it.
