The Mitsubishi Electric Ecodan R290 is a monobloc air-source heat-pump range for residential heating and domestic hot water. It uses R290 refrigerant, with a stated global-warming potential of 0.02, and can provide flow temperatures of up to 75°C in suitable operating conditions.
Suitable for new-build and boiler-replacement projects, including homes with radiators or underfloor heating — subject to a heat-loss calculation and technical survey. Available in 5 kW, 6 kW, 8.5 kW, 10 kW and 12 kW, single and three phase, standard and coastal protection.
A higher maximum flow temperature may help some boiler-replacement projects, but it does not remove the need to check heat loss, radiator output, pipework and system efficiency.

Ecodan R290 may be suitable for replacing a gas, oil or LPG boiler where the property can accommodate an air-source heat-pump system. Existing radiators must be tested or calculated at the proposed heat-pump flow temperature. A 75°C maximum does not mean the system should routinely operate at 75°C.
Ecodan R290 can be designed for radiator heating, underfloor heating, mixed systems and zoned arrangements. The design should establish room-by-room heat loss, required radiator output, underfloor circuit capacity, proposed flow and return temperatures, pipework flow rates, hydraulic separation, zone controls and balancing.
Operating at the lowest practical flow temperature will generally be an important part of achieving efficient heat-pump operation.
