Ideal HP290

The Ideal HP290 is a monobloc air-source heat pump using R290 natural refrigerant. Designed for the UK climate, it provides low-carbon heating and domestic hot water, with flow temperatures of up to 75°C in suitable operating conditions.

It can be designed for homes with radiators, underfloor heating, or a combination of both — subject to a property survey and heat-loss calculation.

Ideal HP290 cylinder options

The HP290 pairs with an Ideal heat-pump cylinder for domestic hot water. Capacity and configuration follow household size, demand, available space and the heating-system layout — confirmed on survey.

Pre-plumbed with integrated buffer

Packaged cylinder with integrated buffer, control box, pumps, valves, sensors and associated hydraulics, depending on the selected model. Capacities from 180 to 300 litres; single-zone and two-zone; standard-width and slimline where available.

Pre-plumbed with control box

Factory-prepared cylinder and controls without an integrated buffer — 150 to 300 litres, standard and slimline, single- or two-zone, with low-loss-header configurations where required.

Standalone heat-pump cylinders

For bespoke hydraulics or where a pre-plumbed package is not required — 150 to 300 litres, including slimline 180-litre and 210-litre versions.

Which cylinder arrangement may suit you?

Pre-plumbed with integrated buffer

Attractive where a neat packaged install is preferred, installation time needs to be minimised, hydraulic support is required, or the property has one or two heating zones with enough space for the packaged unit.

Pre-plumbed with control box

Suits factory-prepared controls and a simplified install where the cylinder and heating arrangement stay separate — one-zone, two-zone or low-loss-header configurations as needed.

Standalone cylinder

For bespoke plant rooms, separate pumps and controls, slimline space constraints, or specific pipework layouts.

Existing cylinders, radiators and zones

An existing cylinder should not automatically be assumed suitable for the HP290. The installer checks coil size and heat-transfer area, storage capacity, condition and insulation, sensors, recovery time, immersion provision, pipework and safety components, and compatibility with the selected controls.

The HP290 can work with radiators and underfloor heating, but each room and circuit must be assessed — heat loss, radiator output at the proposed flow temperature, UFH performance, pipework flow rates, heating zones, buffer or low-loss-header needs, and balancing. Larger radiators may be needed in some rooms so the heat pump can operate efficiently at a lower flow temperature.
